Why I do this work

Why I do this work

Why I do this work

  • I am super passionate about bringing up to date and inclusive perspectives about eating disorders into medical care, therapy, and athletics.
  • Unfortunately, many approaches to eating disorders are based on outdated ideas, misconceptions and stereotypes. This can make people who are struggling with eating invisible to their care providers or athletic coaches. It also means that even if these folks do get properly assessed for having an eating disorder, they are not appropriately treated and often harmed by mainstream eating disorder treatment.
  • The ongoing use of outdated approaches in eating disorder treatment also means that people who are suffering around eating and their loved ones can spend precious time and resources in therapies that fail to provide substantive improvements. This may lead to a sense of hopelessness or even self-blame.
  • I have spent two decades continually integrating everything I can possibly learn about eating disorders. I have studied the neurobiology of eating and the current neuroscience and genetic  research into eating disorders. I have listened to hundreds of stories from those who suffer around eating. I have cared for many who suffer with eating and have seen them change and heal.
  • I love doing consulting work and am happy to speak with you about any dimension of eating disorders that you’d like to process or learn more about.
